The Athletics Museum 2025: the year in review

2025 has been a busy year for The Athletics Museum. We celebrated the life and achievements of athlete and strong man Geoff Capes with a pop up exhibition at Pickering Memorial International throws competition in Loughborough in June, collaborated with The Hockey Museum to interview athlete and hockey star Joy Crowther as she celebrated her 100th birthday in August and currently have one of our star items, the Prince Hassam Pacha 100 yard trophy on display at the National Football Museum as part of their Black in the Game exhibition which explores the impact of Black players on the English game.

You can read about all of these and find many more stories and digital exhibitions including an exhibition on the development of Women’s athletics, the History of the English Schools’ event, and the story of Sportshall Athletics and its influence on junior athletics development and coaching on The Athletics Museum website.

Looking ahead to 2026, The Athletics Museum will be popping up again at Pickering Memorial International 2026 on 31st May. Come and find us in the pavilion at Loughborough during the event to see our new exhibition which for the first time features a long jumper and pentathlete.

We are proud to be working with the Personal Best Foundation during 2026 to provide school children with opportunities to gain sports writing skills and see their work published – keep an eye on The Athletics Museum to see what they come up with.

We will also be working towards Commonwealth Games 2026, continuing to support and assist athletics researchers, and will continue telling the story of athletics throughout the year.
